When We’re Not Making Jewelry

Recently, we took you through our jewelry making process, from sourcing vintage lace to putting the final touches to our pieces. There are many other things that go into running a small business so, today, we thought we’d share a non-exhaustive list of what we do, in and out of our Brooklyn atelier.

In no particular order, we:

  • Scour flea markets or yard sales for vintage lace. We love chatting with the stall owners to learn more about the fabric’s origin.

  • Take pretty pictures. Showcasing our pieces in the best possible way makes all the difference. Once or twice a year, we organize a photoshoot in Paris with our favorite photographer, Nicolas Darde. The rest of the time, we have mini photography sessions at the atelier, and even take fun little videos.

  • Take good care of our tools. They help us work with precision and efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the boutiques in New York City, Paris, and Los Angeles that carry our pieces. That includes keeping track of stock, learning about what their customers want, regularly dropping off new items, and contacting new stores that we’d love to work with.

Look for inspiration everywhere: in museums and art galleries, on Pinterest and Instagram, and among our artist friends.

  • Communicate with you about orders and custom creations. We love hearing from you, so feel free to get in touch with us at hello@camilled.com and we’ll be happy to help make your jewelry dreams come true.

  • Update our eshop, brainstorm topics for upcoming newsletters, and plan out our Instagram content.

  • And then there’s all the admin stuff, but you probably don’t want to hear about that 😉.
